HygieneScout makes it easy to check food hygiene ratings for every inspected food business in the UK. We index over 600,000 establishments — from high-street restaurants and takeaways to pubs, cafes, hotels, and food manufacturers — and present their official Food Standards Agency ratings in a clean, searchable format.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) is run by local authorities in partnership with the Food Standards Agency. Trained inspectors visit food businesses and assess three areas: how food is handled and prepared (hygiene), the physical condition of the building (structural), and how the business manages and documents food safety procedures (confidence in management). Each area is scored, and the results are combined into an overall rating from 0 to 5.
Unlike other rating sites, HygieneScout tracks rating changes over time so you can see whether a business is improving or declining. Browse by town, council area, or business type, or search for a specific restaurant by name or postcode.
